EU RoHS Directive: Compliance Status of Sanken Semiconductor Products

The semiconductor products listed in this website comply with the EU RoHS Directive.
Our products also comply with the RoHS2 Directive, officially announced in 2015.
Except for the applications exempt from the Directives, our products do not contain any regulated substances exceeding their allowable limits.

Directive Restricted Substance Allowable Limit*
RoHS1 Lead (Pb) ≤0.1 wt%
Mercury (Hg) ≤0.1 wt%
Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) ≤0.1 wt%
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) ≤0.1 wt%
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) ≤0.1 wt%
Cadmium (Cd) ≤0.01 wt%
RoHS2
From July 22, 2019 (Date Inclusive)
4 phthalate substances Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP)≤0.1 wt%
Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)≤0.1 wt%
Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP)≤0.1 wt%
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)≤0.1 wt%

*Refers to a concentration rate calculated with a denominator defined by the homogeneous material.
(A homogeneous material is a material that cannot be mechanically separated or decomposed into different materials such as by processing.)

However, the products listed below may not comply with the EU RoHS Directive.

EU RoHS Directive: Exemptions for Restricted Substances

The RoHS Directive includes exemptions that define permitted uses for its restricted substances. Below are examples of the exemptions applicable to our semiconductor products.
Please refer to the RoHS Directive and understand the exemptions correctly.
The RoHS Directive is subject to continuous revisions; therefore, please also confirm the latest information.

[Example Exemptions]

  • Lead in high melting-point solders (i.e., lead alloys with a lead content of ≥85 wt%).
  • Lead in solders to connect the semiconductor die and carrier within integrated circuit flip chip packages.

[Precaution before Purchasing Our Product]
For the information about the exemptions for the restricted substances, please contact our sales representatives before purchasing our products.

ELV Directive: Compliance Status of Sanken Semiconductor Products

The ELV Directive (Directive 2000/53/EC on End-of-Life Vehicles) is a directive of the European Union for discarded automotive products. This Directive was enacted in October 2000, aiming at reducing vehicle waste and its environmental influences.
This Directive prohibits the use of certain substances for easier recycling. However, the ELV Directive includes exemptions that define permitted uses for such restricted substances.
Please refer to the ELV Directive and gain proper information on the exemptions. The ELV Directive is subject to continuous revisions; therefore, please also confirm the latest information.

The semiconductor products listed in this website comply with the ELV Directive.
Except for the applications exempt from the Directive, our products do not contain any regulated substances exceeding their allowable limits.
However, the products listed below may not comply with the ELV Directive.
For more details, please contact our sales representatives.

ELV Exemptions

The ELV exemptions define specific applications permitting the fixed-term use of the restricted substances that are not substitutable due to technological and scientific reasons.
The table below provides the exemptions applicable to our products.

No. Exemption
8(e) Lead in high melting-point solders (i.e., lead-based alloys with a lead content of ≥85 wt%).
10(a) Electrical and electronic components which contain lead in a glass or ceramic other than dielectric ceramic in capacitors (e.g., piezoelectric devices), or in a glass or ceramic matrix compound.
8g(ⅱ) Lead in solders to complete a viable electrical connection between the semiconductor die and carrier within integrated circuit flip chip packages.

Analysis Result

We guarantee that our covered products (except for the ELV exemptions) meet the criteria for the substance groups listed in the table below, whose content concentration levels do not exceed the regulated limits.

No. Group of Substances Regulated Limit
1 Lead and its compounds ≤1000 ppm (0.1 wt%)
2 Mercury and its compounds ≤1000 ppm (0.1 wt%)
3 Cadmium and its compounds ≤100 ppm (0.01 wt%)
4 Hexavalent chromium and its compounds ≤1000 ppm (0.1 wt%)

REACH Regulation

REACH is a regulation of the EU to control chemical substances, took effect on June 2007. The acronym REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, Restriction of Chemicals; the REACH Regulation governs these systems inclusively.

Below is an overview of the key elements of the REACH Regulation:

  • Imposes the duty to perform safety assessments on manufacturers or importers within the EU
  • Uniformly regulates both the existing and new chemical substances
  • Regulates the chemical substances in articles when certain conditions are matched
  • Requires information to be communicated in the supply chain
  • Affects not only the chemical substances but also the domestic manufacturers and exporters who export their articles to the EU

  • In material procurement activities (incl. outsourcing the manufacturing of our products), Sanken Electric has been striving to comply with any laws and regulations (incl. the REACH Regulation) and social norms, and to build mutually cooperative and reliable relationships with business partners.
Moreover, we have been and will be actively engaged in fulfilling our corporate social responsibility (e.g., global environmental conservation) while gaining support from our business partners.
