Sanken Released Its New Off-line Converter Design Tool Along with Sanshin Electric’s Transformer Support Service

  • Our Newly Released Off-line Converter Design Tool: “Sanken STR Pro”
    In general, designing off-line converters requires many steps and tasks: you have to select ICs and parts to meet specifications, create circuit diagrams and transformers, and so on.
    Sanken STR Pro is an automated parameter calculator to help engineers and designers. You only have to enter the input/output conditions that you want to realize by using an off-line converter. Once you have entered the desired specifications, Sanken STR Pro selects the best IC* for your project and outputs a circuit diagram, a bill of materials, and a transformer spec sheet.

    The algorithms, developed with our know-how in designing over many years, are what drives this tool correctly. You no longer need to calculate any parameter you are unsure about.
    A transformer spec sheet auto-created by the tool is based on information about actual bobbins and cores. You can submit the output data with no additional document tasks.**
    * Supported products: the STR6A/6S series (as of September 2023)
    ** Bobbins may differ among transformer manufacturers. Modifications to the tool’s output data may be required per manufacturer.

    Along with the release of our new design tool, one of our long-standing business partners, Sanshin Electric Co., Ltd., has also launched its transformer support service.
    You can simply ask Sanshin Electric to prototype your transformer by sending the design data auto-created by Sanken STR Pro.
    In addition to the prototyping service, Sanshin Electric offers the transformers for our power supply design examples using off-line converter ICs.

Sanken Began to Roll Out Its SPICE Models to MoDeCH’s Model On! Service

In recent circuit designing, more and more circuit designers use simulation software to decrease their development person-hours/workloads. At the same time, the number of circuit designers using SPICE models, known as a key part of circuit simulations, has been growing. And the availability of SPICE models is one of the urgent issues the industry has faced.

MoDeCH offers the Model On! service, an on-demand model library service that you can access any time any model you want. Over a hundred thousand SPICE models are now downloadable from this library (including the models created by MoDeCH or provided by its affiliated component manufacturers).

We are pleased to announce that we have started providing our SPICE models to the Model On! service. Now you can get the SPICE models you need directly from this one-stop model distribution service, without searching around different websites. We believe this project can benefit our customers in streamlining processes, such as easier parts selection and faster product development.

Our rollout plan is to continuously add more Sanken’s SPICE models to the Model On! service.

IFB Industries Honored Sanken as a Best Semiconductor Supplier

An Indian consumer electronics manufacturer, IFB Industries Ltd. (hereafter “IFB”), granted an award to Sanken for its Best Supplier-Semiconductor FY2022-23.

By adopting our off-line converter ICs, IFB succeeded in decreasing dramatically its product defects, which had been induced by the power supply voltages varying enormously in the country. And both our technical and sales supports earned high praise from IFB.


We provide off-line converter ICs with built-in power MOSFETs having high breakdown voltages (650 V to 800 V) and guaranteed avalanche energy capabilities. These features allow our ICs to withstand even when a surge voltage exceeding the breakdown voltage of a power MOSFET is applied. You can build power supplies ideal for use in regions where supply voltages fluctuate greatly.

Sanken’s MD6750 series won the METI Minister’s Award at the FY2022 Energy Conservation Grand Prize

Our high-efficient digital power management ICs — MD6750 series — won the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (Power-saving Field), as the highest award in the Product & Business Model Category at the FY2022 Energy Conservation Grand Prize sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ; supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).

The MD6750 series are power management ICs developed for power supplies supporting high-power applications, including audiovisual equipment (e.g., OLED TVs).
This series comes in a single package that incorporates our high-end technologies, such as the microcontroller chip for digital control power supplies and the high-breakdown-voltage analog chip with the built-in driver circuits for the PFC/current-resonant circuits.
Here are the advantages the awarded MD6750 series brought out: a 30% decrease in the number of components, a 20% decrease in the size of power supplies, and a 2% increase in conversion efficiency at all load ranges.

Based on our annual shipment volume, we estimated an energy-saving effect of 65,000 kW if those shipped have been implemented in customers’ applications.
With this award, ECCJ honored us for this estimated energy-saving effect as a promising efficiency enhancer for power supply circuits that are indispensable to meet the global growth of electronic equipment.
