The SEP1xx1L series are ultra-high brightness LEDs that achieve not only high reliability but also high efficiency and high-brightness for automotive interiors.
Above all, this series is ideal for backlights using blacked-out instrument panels with low light transmission rates.
The new LED devices achieve industry-leading* ultra-high brightness by combining our new technologies: a structure with high heat dissipation, reflector resin with high heat/light resistance, and an LED chip with high heat resistance.

Applications

For automotive interior applications such as:

Enhanced Heat Dissipation

The new structure transfers chip-generated heat directly under the chip, allowing shorter heat dissipation paths and larger heatsinks.
This significantly improves the thermal resistance θ(J-S) from 100 °C/W in the existing construction to 25 °C/W.

Industry's Highest* Brightness

The built-in chip has a junction temperature, TJ(max.), of 150 °C, which is improved from 125 °C of our existing series.This enables the new devices to support ambient temperatures, (TA) up to 110 °C.
Using reflector resin with higher heat resistance allows the SEP1xx1L series to operate at higher currents.
As a result, the SEP1WC1L19DTA achieves the industry's highest* luminous intensity which is nearly 1.6 times higher than our existing products.

The series suppresses the deterioration of brightness during long-term operation by using high-reflective Ag plating and silicone encapsulation resin to prevent Ag sulfuration.

Suitable for Backlight in Black-out Design

Black-out design, with its stylish and luxurious appearance, is increasingly used in instrument panels.
In the black-out design, the instrument panel is all black and blends in with the interior when the power is off. When the power is on, the icons for the control buttons appear on the panel.

The light transmission of materials in the existing design is 40 to 50%, whereas it is as low as about 10% in black-out design, requiring LEDs with ever higher luminous intensity as the light source for the backlight.
In this design, the luminous intensity required for white LEDs is more than 4,000 mcd, which is double that of existing designs.
The SEP1WC1L19DTA achieves high luminous intensity and the high reliability required for automotive products, making it ideal for backlight sources in black-out design.

The SEP1xx1L series also offers various LED colors other than white, which achieve about twice the luminous intensities of the existing devices.
